As the agitation by milk producers in Tamil Nadu, demanding increased procurement price, entered the third day today, the state government said their demands were unjustified and that the stir has had minimal impact in milk supply.

Minister for milk and dairy development U Mathivanan, in a statement, said the present DMK government had increased the procurement price several times over a period and hence, the agitation was unjustified. "The stir has had minimum impact in supply of milk to the public," he claimed.

As part of their agitation, producers and farmers have been staging road blockades with their cattle at various places in Tamil Nadu and stopped supplying milk to co-operative milk producers unions since Monday.

They have also staged protests at Dharmapuri, Namakkal, Erode, Salem, and Krishnagiri districts, parts of Tirupur and Coimbatore, demanding an increase of Rs five per litre for cow's milk and rs 8 for buffalo milk.
