Alleging blatant politicisation of Shri Amarnath Shrine Board, BJP on  Monday accused the SASB of surrendering its autonomous character to serve the political interests of NC-led government in Jammu and Kashmir.

"There is blatant politicisation of SASB....The Board has surrendered its autonomous character to serve the political interests of the NC-led government," BJP chief spokesperson Jitendra Singh told reporters here.

He objected to curtailing the duration of Amarnath Yatra to just 39 days this year, saying there was no rationale behind the decision.

Singh also demanded reconstitution of the Shrine Board.

He questioned the stand of the Congress party, which is a coalition partner in the government, and asked why its leaders were observing "convenient silence" on such a crucial issue.Meanwhile, the Vishva Hindu Parishad said that the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board's decision of curtailing the duration of Amarnath yatra is an encroachment on Hindu religion and will be resisted tooth and nail.

"The recent decision of the Board of curtailing the yatra duration is being seen as an encroachment on Hindu religion and will be resisted tooth and nail across the country," VHP state president Rama Kant Dubay told reporters.

"We strongly resent the move of Board headed by Governor of Jammu and Kashmir N N Vohra to curtail the Yatra period to 39 days this year," he said.

The 60-day yatra, which is scheduled to begin from the auspicious day of 'Jyeshtha Purnima' every year and conclude on 'Raksha Bandhan' has a religious sentiment attached to the commencement and concluding dates and any interference with the structure will not be tolerated, Dubay said.
