The revenue of the Bihar excise department was up by 47 per cent at Rs 1098 crore during the fiscal year that ended on March 31, 2010 as compared to the corresponding period previous year.

The revenue collection surpassed the target of Rs 950 crore fixed by the state government during the period under review, the state excise department commissioner Vandana Preyashi said here today.

Claiming that the auction and settlement of the liquor shops were "extremely good" in most parts of the state, Preyashi said the department achieved cent per cent settlement in 15 districts, while it was over 90 per cent in 17 districts.

Enforcement was accorded top priority and raids were being carried out to check bootlegging and leakages and altogether 2,600 cases have been registered since January this year, Preyashi said.

Bihar State Beverages Corporation has shown a 200 per cent rise in its profit to Rs 160 crore, official sources said.
