Bihar MP gets hard-cash garland, but briefly

People snatch notes from Rs 1 lakh garland!

PTI | March 17, 2010

After Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati, a Bihar MP was welcomed with a garland of currency notes. But there was a difference since the expelled JD(U) MP Ejaz Ali found the garland in tatters no sooner it was put around his neck today.

The notes totalling an estimated Rs one lakh were slowly plucked out and snatched by some undentified people.

Ali was being honoured with the garland by his supporters for opposing Women's Reservation Bill after his arrival at the Patna airport from New Delhi.

He was among the seven MPs suspended for unruly behaviour in the Rajya Sabha over the Bill last week.

Ali described the incident as the handiwork of people opposed to his rise in politics, and told PTI, "Had they been my supporters, they would have behaved decently and not taken away the currency notes from the garland."

Ali was recently expelled from JD(U) for his alleged anti-party activities.
