Cabinet to consider new design for currency

The union cabinet on Thursday will consider a change of design for some of the currency notes. This will be introduced in 2012 in the highest denominations like Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 notes.
This change is being brought about keeping in mind international security consideration and new norms adopted by developed countries. It will also factor in counterfeiting.
The cabinet will discuss and likely approve a detailed cabinet note from the Department of Economic Affairs.
