As part of its investigations into the alleged fake encounter of Maoist leader Azad and journalist Hemchandra Pandey, a CBI team visited the site of the incident in Adilabad district of Andhra Pradesh ON Tuesday.

The CBI team, led by joint director and head of Hyderabad Zone (CBI), V V Lakshmi Narayana and CBI superintendent of Police H Venaktesh were among the officials who visited the area, officials said, adding that the team carried out forensic probe and video graphed the scene of the encounter.

"After registering the case against AP Police officials, a CBI team today visited the encounter scene as part of its investigation into the case," a senior official told PTI.

The Supreme Court ordered a CBI probe after charges of a false encounter were made by social activist Swami Agnivesh and Pandey's wife Bineeta. The CBI (Hyderabad Zone) on May 19 registered a case against AP police officials.

The case was registered against Asifabad circle inspector, Thandur Police Station sub-inspector, a sub-inspector in the Armed Reserve Head Quarters at Bellampally, civil and Armed Reserve special party police officers and others.

According to Andhra Pradesh police, CPI (Maoist) central committee member Cherukuri Rajkumar alias Azad and journalist Hemachandra Pandey, were killed in an exchange of fire at Asifabad in Adilabad district on the intervening night of July 1 and 2, 2010.
