Despite being in the government’s list of children institutions covered by the juvenile justice (care and protection of children) act, 2000, four institutions in the capital have said that they are not covered by act.

The four children homes are Sanskar Ashram for girls, Sanskar Ashram for boys II, home for healthy children of leprosy patients (male and female) and home for healthy female children of leprosy patients. 

Anisha Ghosh of Delhi based NGO, Pratidhi, had asked for information from children institutions under the RTI act.

The applicant wanted to know if the institutions were following the norms prescribed in the act.

“Not applicable to us” was the response of Sanskar Ashram for Girls to all the questions.

To the query demanding to know if inspections had been carried out by the inspection committees under the JJ Act, the home for healthy children of leprosy patients (male and female) said, “not pertaining to us.”

The department of women and child development in an affidavit filed in the Supreme Court has provided a list of institutions run by DWCD under JJ act 2000.

The four institutions are included in this list.

“Either the affidavit filed by DWDC is false or replies provided by these institutions are false,” said Ghosh.
