Top commanders of the Indian armed forces today stressed the need to strengthen tri-service communication network in view of terrorist threat faced by the country.

The commanders attending a tri-service meet of Army, Navy and Air Force at the Southern Air Command here felt it was important to step up co-ordination among the forces for the coastal security in the light of the terrorist assault on Mumbai on November 26, 2008.

"The command, control and co-ordination for effective coastal security can only be achieved through co-operative exercises in a realistic scenario", a Defence press release on the opening day's deliberations of the two-day meet said.

The conference discussed strategic reach, both by aerospace and maritime power, in the context of the Indian Ocean region and the country's security umbrella.

They also discussed ways to arrive at workabkle solutions for seamless intergraton and synergy of the three services to counter the threats posed to national resources in the southern peninsula and the economic zones in the Indian Ocean.

The conference was chaired by Chief of the Integrated Defence Staff, Air Marshal S C Mukul.

Those who are attending the meet included Air Marshal Sumit Mukerjee (Southern Air Command), Lt Gen Pradeek Khanna (GOC-in-C, Southern Army Command), Vice-admiral K N Susheel (FOC-in-C, Soythern Naval Command) and Vice-admiral D K Joshi, (C-in-C, Andaman and Nicobar).
