Connaught Place gets cleaner air

New air- filtration unit reduces pollution in CP

GN Bureau | April 29, 2010

If New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) is to be believed, the air- filtration machine installed last month in Connaught Place in the capital, has reduced air pollution in the area.
Systemlife, the Italian company installed the unit outside Rajiv Chowk metro rail station in association with the civic agency as a pilot project.
Systemlife has done an analysis of the filters which says that the unit has purified 8,600,000 cubic metres of air with a filtering efficiency of 95 per cent. In the process, the unit detained 212 kg of particulates.
NDMC has forwarded the report to Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
If CPCB verifies the data, similar units will be installed in rest of the NDMC areas.
According to Systemlife, the filtration- unit can eliminate particulate matter produced by 300 cars of Euro-4 type  within a span of one hour.
