NDFB chief Ranjan Daimary, prime accused in the October 2008 serial blasts in Assam, was today remanded to 14 days police custody in Udalguri.

The National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) leader was remanded by Udalguri Sub-divisional Judicial Magistrate Hanif Ali in connection with a bomb attack in 1995, killing several patrolling police personnel.

He was handed over to Udalguri police by Sonitpur Sub-divisional court yesterday and was brought to court amid tight security as NDFB supporters, carrying banners and placards, demonstrated outside the court premises.

The police fired in the air to disperse the supporters when they refused to move away. The situation is now under control, the police said.

Daimary was produced in the Sonitpur court yesterday, at the end of three days police custody at Rangapara, in connection with the killing of an army officer in 2008 at Bhalukpong in bordering Arunachal Pradesh.

He was remanded to judicial custody on May 25 and handed over to Sonitpur police to interrogate the killing of 12 people in Bhimajuli area of the district.

Daimary was held in Bangladesh and handed over to the Indian authorities on May 1.
