DDA discusses in situ slum rehabilitation

DDA advisory council does a reality check of major projects

Members of the Delhi development authority (DDA) advisory council met on Wednesday to analyse the current projects taken up by the DDA including the Yamuna river front project, development of biodiversity parks and in situ rehabilitation of slums.

The meeting, held at Raj Niwas, was attended by the Lt. Governor Tejendra Khanna, MPs, MLAs, councilors, DDA officers and town planning experts. Those who attended the meeting praised the LG’s decision to develop the entire Yamuna river bed as a biodiversity zone.

It was also suggested by the members that maintenance of DDA parks should be improved and that there should be rain shelters and amenities for senior citizens in the parks.

Members said the the greening of the river front should be professionally managed so that the project is completed within the stipulated time period of 5 years According to one of the experts present in the meeting, the amalgamation of riverfront and river edges should be soft and that the objective should not be only beautification but it should lead to sustainable environment. Work on In-situ development of low cost flats at present locations of slum-clusters was also discussed during the meeting.

According to members, it should be ensured that the land on which the jhuggis are relocated, during the project, is not encroached when relocated jhuggis are shifted to their allotted houses.
