ED closes in on Koda

Obtains an additional Letters Rogatory to gather evidence from Dubai

Tightening the noose around former Jharkhand chief minister Madhu Koda in a corruption case, the ED has obtained an additional Letters Rogatory to gather evidence from Dubai where one of Koda's Pune-based associates allegedly invested Rs 270 crore in real estate.

"The Enforcement Directorate yesterday obtained the LR from the Prevention of Money Laundering Act court. This is in addition to the already obtained LR in December last year from the UAE, Indonesia, Sweden, Liberia, Bangkok and Thailand," Special Public Prosecutor S R Das told reporters here today.

The ED moved the court after stumbling upon some documents during raids that revealed that one Anil Adinath Bastavade of Pune had allegedly invested in Dubai through hawala from the "money generated from criminal activities of Madhu Koda and others during his chief ministerial term", he said.

Bastavade had allegedly invested Rs 55 crore in two projects -- Master Developers at Downtown, Jebel Ali Zone 2, Dubai and Rs 102 crore at Master Developers, Jumeira village, Dubai, he said.

He also allegedly invested in residential and commercial buildings at Deema and Lake Burj in Dubai.
