The Uttar Pradesh government has directed the transport department officials to launch a drive against non-tax paying commercial vehicles plying in the state.

"Transport Minister Ram Achal Rajbhar has directed all the regional transport officers to identify those commercial vehicles whose tax is not being deposited timely," an official spokesman said.

The minister said that addresses on which such vehicles have been registered should also be verified to check their authenticity, he said.

The spokesman said that in case if the addresses are found fake then a list should be provided to the enforcement officers to check plying of such vehicles.

Rajbhar has also directed the officials to effectively check overloading and unauthorised plying of vehicles.

He said that regular checking should be done and in case of anomaly, a notice must be sent to the vehicle owner.
