The CWG sword seems to be hanging on many a heads - and this time some of the heads are from the bureaucracy. With the government cracking the whip on those responsible for the Games embarassment, some high-ranking babus may also get the boot.

The government is set to announce the second phase of CWG ghostbusting early in the coming week. Sources say that as many as six senior secretaries to the government of India may be knocked out of their posts for having shown a lackadaiscal attitude toward the Commonwealth Games.

The government is upset with the secretaries for having failed to alert it about the graft in the Queen's baton relay in London. A senior prime minister's office (PMO) source said that it was unfortunate that the government only came to know of the graft after a media expose.

The PMO's ire may also befall the Delhi administration - directed specifically at the civic agencies, New  Delhi municipal corporation (NDMC), municipal corporation of Delhi (MCD), Delhi development authority (DDA) and Delhi transport corporation (DTC).

The role of the Delhi lieutenant governor and chief minister in the gathering CWG muck may be debated, but is likely to be resolved politically. But the government seems insistent in making an example of the at least three senior officials of the MCD and DDA.
