India, Japan open "a new chapter in special strategic and global partnership"

India and Japan are opening a new chapter in their special strategic and global partnership with the visit of prime minister Sanae Takaichi, India's prime minister Narendra Modi said on Thursday,

"I had said in the G7 summit a few days ago that, in this environment of global uncertainty, our mutual trust is our biggest strategic asset. And I am proud that India-Japan partnership has proven true on this test," Modi said in his press statement.

"In the last few decades, Japan has become an important partner in India's growth story. With prime minister Takaichi's visit, we are opening a new chapter in our special strategic and global partnership," he said.

"Today, India and Japan are among the largest economies in the world. A free, prosperous and rules-based Indo-Pacific in our joint priority.

"We, as biggest democratic and market economies in the region, have taken several important initiatives. With that, we will help build the path to peace, stability and progress in the entire region.

He said PM Takaichi and he believed that technological partnership will be the strongest pillar of their cooperation. "To realise this vision, we have issued a joint statement in the field of AI. Several leading organisations of India's AI ecosystem have signed agreements with their Japanese partners today."

The confluence of Japan's precision technology and India's software capacity will provide a new pace and direction to the global development of AI, he added.
