Maharashtra chief minister Ashok Chavan today said applications of transfers and promotions would not be entertained at the 'Janata Durbar' which has been revived by the state unit Congress from today.

Chavan while addressing over 200 people who had come to the party office in South Mumbai said only genuine individual cases would be given priority and urged the state Congress unit to create a special email id for the benefit of the people who live outside Mumbai so that they can mail their applications to the party office first.

"I expect people to come up with development issues concerning their constituency and overall public interest which would help the government to frame policy decisions.

Party workers should bring individual cases if there is injustice meted out the the common man," he said.

Chavan said interactions with the common man have been an ongoing process in the state government through 'Lokshahi Din' at Mantralaya and the district collectorate offices.

"Issues of the common man should be resolved at the district level itself. If it is brought to our notice that redressal of grievances is not taking place at the collectorate level, I will not hesitate to take action against the officer concerned," Chavan added.

He said the party should organise such 'Janata durbars' at the district unit party offices as well. Chavan urged party workers not to spend money on garlands and bouquets when he visits the party office.

"Instead you can donate the money to the party where it can be utilised for providing books to the poor children for their education," he said.

Chavan said he has set up a separate cell in his office in Mantralaya to keep track on applications, complaints and correspondence received from people of all walks of life including elected representatives.

"It makes monitoring and tracking the process of taking the issues raised to their logical conclusion easier," he said adding applications received from the party office would be dealt with separately in his office.

He said several applications sent in today pertained to seeking houses under the chief minister's quota and other personal requests including medical treatment of a child suffering from cancer. "Genuine cases would be considered," he said.

Rest applications were accepted by guardian minister for Mumbai suburbs Mohammed Naseem Khan, who is also the textile minister.

State unit president Manikrao Thakre said people should submit their applications a day before the 'Janata durbar' or two hours before on the day of the durbar at the party office.

Each Congress minister has been allocated a day where he will attend the durbar two hours on Tuesday and Thursday every week. Next week forest minister Patangrao Kadam and Narayan Rane will attend the Janata Durbar, Thakre said.
