JDU demands CBI probe into cash seizure on RS poll day

Rs 2.15 crore was seized on March 30

PTI | April 3, 2012

The Janata Dal (U), an ally of the BJP-led government in Jharkhand, on Tuesday demanded a CBI probe into the seizure of Rs 2.15 crore on March 30 when the Rajya Sabha polls were due to take place.

"To check further slide in moral values in politics, our party wants that there should be a CBI probe to find out if the cash seized was linked to horse trading," JDU state unit spokesman Pramod Mishra said here.

The JDU?s demand comes a day after senior BJP leader Yashwant Sinha asked the Election Commission of India to ask the premier investigating agency or any other agency to inquire into what happened from the time the election process began.

The ECI had on the same day recommended countermanding of election to two seats for the Upper House from the state following the seizure.
