Kejriwal, supporters detained by cops; Anna in hospital

AAP leader picked up with over 100 supporters for sit-in outside Sheila Dikshit residence; later wishes Hazare quick recover on tweet

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener Arvind Kejriwal and over 100 supporters were detained by Delhi Police on Friday afternoon from outside chief minister Sheila Dikshit’s residence on a day his mentor, social activist Anna Hazare, was hospitalised in Gurgaon.

Confirming this on Twitter, Kejriwal, a former Team Anna member, tweeted, "Anna in hospital. I wish I cud go to see him. I wish him fast recovery.”

Another Team Anna member, former cop Kiran Bedi, tweeted: "Anna is admitted in Medanta (hospital, in Gurgaon) and under intensive care of a team of doctors. What are the health issues only doctors can say as professionals.”

Meanwhile, protesting the administration’s move to raze several residences in the capital’s Shaheenbagh area, more than 100 people began a sit-in protest outside Dikshit’s 3-Motilal Nehru Marg residence around 7 am, with Kejriwal joining them an hour later. By noon, the crowd had swelled to over 300.

Among other key AAP members present at the protest site were Kumar Vishwas, Manish Sisodia and Shahzia Ilmi.

Kejriwal and several other protestors were taken away to Parliament Street police station around 12.30 pm on charges of encroachment.

Stating that the colony to which residences razed was a part of 1,600 colonies that Congress president Sonia Gandhi had earlier said would be regularised, Kejriwal remarked: "The land where these people are living is their land. They have documents (to prove ownership). But it's unauthorised because you have to get the map passed by government."

Accusing Dikshit of not giving her time to the protestors, Kejriwal said they did not want a clash with the government and only wanted to hold a sit-in protest.

Alleging that the government is grabbing people’s land, Kejriwal tweeted, “It all seems to be a huge land grab scandal by Sheila Dikshit to give land to some Robert Vadra or some builder.”

In another tweet from the protest site, he stated, “Interestingly, there is a Reebok showroom just next to this colony. It is unauthorised. That was not demolished.”

With a large khaki contingent deployed to avoid any untoward incident, the police barricaded one side of the road from Janpath side, which has the entry gate to the Delhi CM’s residence.

Will check why Anna against AAP: Kejriwal

Meanwhile, a day after Anna Hazare made it clear that he will not vote for AAP, Kejriwal today said he will discuss the issue with Hazare, according to agency reports.

Hazare had yesterday blamed Kejriwal's fascination for power for the split in the anti-corruption movement and said he will not vote for the Aam Aadmi Party. The social activist accused AAP of going the same way as other parties by taking the path of “money through power and power through money”.

"Let me ask him (Hazare) what gave him that impression. If we are doing something wrong, we will change that," he said. According to Kejriwal, Hazare had said a few days ago that AAP is a "very good" party and that he will support them. "So I will ask him why he said that," he said.
