Despite its declining political fortunes since the 2008 panchayat polls and last year's Lok Sabha elections, the Left Front in West Bengal would celebrate its 33 years in power on June 21.

The programme to be held at the Netaji Indoor Stadium would highlight the achievements of the Left Front government, LF chairman Biman Bose told reporters here today.

Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and leaders of coalition partners will attend the meet, where Left leaders would give their views on the current political situation, he said.

The event would be observed in districts later, he said.

The first CPI(M)-led Left Front government headed by Jyoti Basu had assumed office on June 21, 1977, and the seventh LF ministry led by Bhattacharjee had won a massive mandate in 2006 securing 235 of the 294 seats in the state Assembly.

The Front had, however, faced its worst poll debacle in the last year's Lok Sabha elections securing only 15 of the 42 seats in the state. In 2008, the Left Front faced a drubbing in the panchayat elections.

The Front faced a rout in last month's civic polls in the state which included the prestigious Kolkata Municipal Corporation.
