State power minister says plan in place for zero-cut in power supply by 2012

PTI | July 5, 2010

Maharashtra, which is reeling under power shortage, would be free from load-shedding in 2012, energy and water resources minister Ajit Pawar said here today.

"The government has made adequate planning to ensure that the state does not have to face power shortage after 2012," Pawar said.

He was speaking at a public rally after inaugurating 18 MW capacity co-generation power project, set up by Samarth Cooperative Sugar Factory in the district.

The advent of monsoon in the state has led to drastic reduction in load-shedding, the minister said. The power shortage which was earlier around 6,000 MW, has come down to 1,000 MW, he said.

Maharashtra minister for higher and technical education Rajesh Tope, factory founder and former MP Ankush Tope, NCP Maharashtra president Madhukar Pichad and vice- president and MLC Vinayak Mete were present.
