Maoists today blasted a landmine at Palamau in Jharkhand, killing a policeman and injuring two others.

The ultras triggered the explosion when Jharkhand Armed Police and Palamau district armed police personnel were patrolling on foot at Chak village ahead of a police official's visit, Deputy Inspector General of police Prashant Kumar Singh told PTI here.

The police personnel had got down from their vehicle at a distance and were patrolling on foot when the incident occurred.

The DIG said Upendra Prasad Singh, a police commando of the district armed force, died on the spot.

The injured - Ashok Sao and Shyam Bihari of Jharkhand Armed Police and district armed police respectively were airlifted to a hospital in Ranchi, he said.

The police official had planned to visit the village after information that most of the men had allegedly left the village for fear of Maoist attacks, the DIG said.
