Modi’s ‘night watchman’ remark a hit among MPs

MPs heard talking about the new term “night watchman” coined for PM inside parliament

GN Bureau | March 4, 2013

After Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi called prime minister Manmohan Singh as the "night watchman" of Congress, the new term coined for the PM was the much talked about topic among the MPs in the parliament corridors. Someone was heard saying "night watchman" — kya kamaal ki baat hai. The opposition and some ruling party MPs were heard murmuring this pet word of Narendra Modi.

BJP to meet: The BJP parliamentary party will meet on Tuesday morning to take forward the political aggression shown by Modi during the BJP meet.

The Shastri connection: The strategy of BJP is to keep the Modi hype inside parliament to repeat the salient points of Modi’s speech. And when Lal Bahadur Shastri’s kin was seen in parliament, many BJP MPs told him that Narendra Modi had talked about Lal Bahadur Shastri in his speech. This touched the sentiments of the MP.

Raja to talk on 2G: BJP leader Yashwant Sinha had a 10-minute chat with former telecom minister and DMK MP A Raja in the central hall of parliament. A Raja plans to meet other members at his house where he is supposed to present his side of the story in the 2G scam. And the minutes of the meeting will be telecast live which may add to UPA’s embarrassment.

Priyanka goes under knife: Priyanka Gandhi has undergone a gall bladder surgery at the Gangaram Hospital in New Delhi. Brother Rahul Gandhi and mum Sonia Gandhi accompanied her to the hospital. Incidentally, Gangaram Hospital happens to be the birthplace of Priyanka Gandhi.

Trinamool defends Mamata: The first question raised in the Lok Sabha was on helicopter purchase. Kamal Nath trick worked, commented a minister. He made CPM members come down to the well of the house on the issue of political killings in West Bengal. And that provoked Trinamool to defend Mamata Banerjee.

Renuka as JPC chief: Renuka Choudhary, the Congress MP from Rajya Sabha, is tipped to be the chairman of the joint parliamentary committee to probe the helicopter scam. Since the resolution of formation of JPC was moved and passed in the Rajya Sabha, naturally the chairman of JPC will also be from Rajya Sabha. The JPC will continue even if the Lok Sabha polls are held in 2014.
