GN Bureau | New Delhi | February 15 2011
Members of parliament and that of legislative assemblies will have a greater say in the implementation of Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).
The ministry of urban development is working on a proposal to formulate monitoring committees at district level with MPs & MLAs as members of this committee.
The issue was taken up by the union minister for urban development Kamal Nath on Monday in a meeting of the consultative committee attached to the ministry of urban development
The minister said that the monitoring mechanism for the mission needed to be strengthened.
“Some of the reforms in the first phase of the mission were not practical and that it requires greater involvement of people’s representatives,” said the minister.
He added that in JNNURM II, priority would be given to non-metro cities and cities with population of more than 1 lakh.
