Naveen to discuss Posco with six parties

The parties - CPI, CPI(M), Forward Bloc, RJD, SJP and JMM have already asked Patnaik to stop the survey

Orissa chief minister Naveen Patnaik today accepted a proposal of six political parties including the left, for holding talks on the displacement issues relating to the proposed Posco project near Paradip.

The chief minister would meet a delegation of six parties comprising CPI, CPI(M), Forward Bloc, RJD, SJP and JMM on June 11, official sources said.

The parties wrote to Patnaik yesterday to resolve the vexed Posco issue through political dialogue instead of depending on administration or police.

Asking the chief minister to stop the ongoing socio-economic survey at the proposed plant site villages allegedly by using force, the parties highlighted police 'excesses' on the villagers.

The six parties, that had earlier rejected any talk with officials on the Posco issue, were also planning a dharna near the state secretariat opposing the state government's move to forcibly acquire land for Posco project.
