The National Human Rights Commission has condemned the killing of more than 70 CRPF and district police personnel by the Naxalites in Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh on Thursday and said that the aggrieved families would be suitably compensated.

A note released by the commission states that any moment or action in the name of struggle for the rights of the citizens loses its legitimacy the moment it resorts to violence which is the anti thesis of protection of human rights.

“The police and para-military forces are the instruments of the State to enforce rule of law and order and thus protect human rights of the citizens.  In this process they are themselves exposed to high risks to their own lives as well as their families,” the report said.
