Raising questions on Centre's anti-Maoist policies, BJP today said it would support the government's stand which would end Left-wing extremism (LWE).

"There should be clarity in policies on Maoist issues. Different policies are pursued for different states when Maoists have declared war against the democratic system," BJP national general secretary M Venkaiah Naidu told reporters here

Stating that central ministers and UPA leaders differ on their approach to anti-Maoist policies, Naidu said: "clarity and sincerity should be there as Maoists had started killing innocent people."

While Maoists kill innocent people by targeting trains, Centre did nothing other than making statements, he said.

Strongly criticising union home minister P Chidambaram, Naidu said: "Chidambaram makes big talks, but not big actions."

Chidambaram's bold statements would not help to fight the red rebels, he said adding that the union home minister's versions were contradicted by senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh.

Terming Maoist problem as basically a "political" issue, Naidu said it was not a law and order problem as considered by UPA government.

To a question on moves to deploy Army to fight Maoists, Naidu said: "We are with the government which will help in ending violence."

Maoist menance was one of the two major issues to be discussed at BJP's two-day national executive meeting scheduled to be held in Patna on June 13, he said.

On another issue, Naidu said the party would deliberate on UPA government's "discrimination" towards BJP ruled and non-Congress ruled states.

"UPA government is not giving fair treatment to all the states which was affecting federal system of the country," Naidu said, adding non-Congress ruled states were discriminated in terms of central assistance during natural calamities, coal linkage, food grain supply and many other subjects.

Terming UPA government's attitude towards non-Congress ruled states as "step-motherly," Naidu said UPA government must be cautioned about its act which threatens federal structure of the nation.

On Centre's move to hike price of petroleum products, Naidu said BJP would oppose it "tooth and nail" both inside parliament and outside.

Stating that another hike in the fuel price would act as "death blow" for the common people, Naidu said it was unfair to increase the prices of petroleum products when the people were reeling under price rise.

"This move shows that Congress's 'Hath' (hand) was not with the poor people," he said.
