Against the backdrop of reported remarks of SP leader Akhilesh Yadav not ruling out a post-poll alliance with it, Congress on Tuesday dismissed suggestions that it was a "B" team of any party in any of the assembly polls, including Uttar Pradesh.

"We have presented ourselves as an alternative to the political forces which are ruling UP or have ruled UP in the past......We are our own A team whether in UP or any other state. If anybody is creating any confusion that we are their B team or C team, let me dispel it once and for all," Congress spokesman Manish Tewari told reporters.

His reaction came in the wake of reported comments of UP Samajwadi Party chief about not ruling out the possibility of post-poll alliance with Congress in the state.

He said the remark is entirely hypothetical. "When polls have not taken place where is the question of post-poll alliance?" he asked.
