Over 96,000 cases of traffic challans decided in Lok Adalats

"Mega traffic lok adalat" conducted for the disposal of over 96,000 challans

Over 96,000 cases pertaining to traffic rules violations were on Monday decided in Lok Adalats organised at all six district courts complexes here.

"A total of 96,236 traffic cases were disposed of including 89, 007 cases which were consigned in Special Sitting of 18 Magistrates and the settlement amount of approximately more than Rs 12 lakh was received," Delhi Legal Services Authority (DLSA) said in a release.

DLSA conducted the "Mega Traffic Lok Adalat" for disposal of traffic challans of private and commercial vehicles at Patiala House, Tis Hazari, Karkardooma, Rohini, Saket and Dwarka district courts complexes, the release said.

Forty four judicial officers presided over 'Lok Adalat' and "anybody having challan could walk in for on the spot settlement of his/her challan", it said.

As per the directions of Chief Justice Madan B Lokur, special Lok Adalats were organised in all the districts of the state over the last two days and 22,103 cases pertaining to compoundable criminal as well as simple civil disputes were disposed of by judicial officials, A P State Legal Services Authority Member Secretary S Ravikumar said.

Anantapur district topped with settlement of 1,831 cases followed by Krishna district 1,769, Medak 1,568, Nampally criminal court (in Hyderabad) 1,515 and 1,487 cases were disposed of in Ranga Reddy district, the official said.

Lokur who visited the City Civil Court here said it was a good achievement and praised the collective efforts of advocates, litigants, legal services authority officers, police and judicial officers in settling the cases.

During 2011, 81,704 cases were settled by Lok Adalats across the state, Ravikumar said adding, "We are planning to conduct Lok Adalats at regular intervals in different parts of the state to bring down the pendency of cases that are running in lakhs."
