Plane from Karachi lands at IGI without ATC clearance

Two Belgians were flying the plane, no contact with ATC

PTI | February 24, 2010

A chartered plane coming from Karachi and flown by two Belgian nationals made an unscheduled landing at the IGI airport here without clearance from the ATC due to some technical problems, officials said today.

The incident happened on February 17 around 4 pm during peak hours and the CISF was informed at 4.30 pm when the plane reached the parking bay, a senior airport official said.

"The ATC did not received any response from the pilot of the plane which was to pass over Delhi's airspace but it landed without informing us," a senior ATC official said.

Since there was no communication between the ATC and the pilot due to some problem in the radio equipment, the plane landed with the help of a map of Delhi airport.
