GN Bureau | May 3, 2010

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh coming to the aid of Andhra Pradesh to pull it out of the financial crunch following an SOS from Governor ESL Narasimhan.

Singh has asked Narasimhan to discuss the quantum of financial assistance with him on May 11 in Delhi.

Highly placed sources in PMO confirmed that the governor communicated the financial condition of Andhra Pradesh to the PM in a three-page letter.

Singh has tasked a group of secretaries to the central government to assist and render remedies to the state to come out the financial crisis.

The governor has stated that popular schemes like Aarogyashri-Indiramma are facing acute shortage of funds. These political schemes were drawn without a structured planning, resulting in a major financial deficit.

Narasimhan suggested that a complete revisit of these popular schemes is the need of the hour. He also suggested that maximum benefit for the people should be derived without dismantling the popular schemes.
