Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has sought a detailed report on the corruption charges against Medical Council of India (MCI) chief Ketan Desai from Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, reports the Indian Express.

The PM wants to know what action has been taken in this case and the details of Desai’s involvement in a 2001 corruption case as well. The CBI probe into the case has led to the discovery of 10 houses in Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad and other places in Gujarat in Desai’s name. Property, jewellery and gold and silver were found at his premises. Property documents and gold worth Rs 35 lakh was recovered from his bank lockers.

Desai had asked for Rs 8 crore in bribe for granting recognition to the Gian Sagar Medical College in Punjab, said CBI spokesperson. Dr Sukhwinder Singh, vice-chairman of the college has agreed to the charges.
