The Prime Minister's Office has directed the Kurung Kumey district administration to ask the kin of each victim of the February 10 school hostel fire in Palin in Arunachal Pradesh to open bank accounts to receive exgratia.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had promised to give exgratia of Rs 2 lakh to the next of kin of each of the ten students of Holy Angel Don Bosco school killed in the fire and Rs 1 lakh to each of the injured from his National Relief Fund when a four member delegation led by Takam Sanjay, MP, met him on February 7 in New Delhi.

According to the Additional Deputy Commissioner Chakku Takar the district authorities today received a letter from PMO directing them to inform beneficiaries to open accounts.

Takar told PTI that most beneficiaries lived in remote villages near the China border and did not have bank accounts and the district administration was trying to contact them.

Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu had handed over Rs 20 lakh on February 12 to the district authorities as immediate relief.

He had also promised government jobs to a family member of each of the dead students, for which the process was on, Takar said.

Meanwhile, the principal of the school Rev Joe, teachers and staff, who had fled here after the fire, have returned to Palin.

The bodies of ten students, which were buried in the school compound by their parents were reburied.

The authorities were planning to reopen the school on June one.
