Senior police officials from across the country will participate in the three-day Police Science Congress beginning on Thursday and discuss issues like terrorism, Maoism, modernisation of the force and data management here.

The 40th All India Police Science Congress will be inaugurated by Union home minister P Chidambaram, Chhattisgarh DGP Vishwaranjan told reporters here today.

Terrorism has become a global menace and India is facing an additional threat in the form of left-wing extremism. In this backdrop, participants at the Congress are likely to thoroughly discuss these issues and suggest ways to effectively counter them, he said.

Chidambaram will hold a meeting with chief minister Raman Singh, state home minister Nankiram Kanwar and senior government officials tomorrow at the state secretariat, official sources said.

The Maoist problem in the state, which has seen two major Naxal attacks in the last couple of months, would be discussed at the meeting, they added.
