Prabhakaran's mother to be treated in Chennai

Conditional permission granted as the parliament session got over

GN Bureau | May 10, 2010

The central government has given permission to Parvati, mother of slain LTTE supremo V Prabhakaran, to stay in Chennai for a month for her medical treatment.

Parvati is likely to come to Chennai on Tuesday. The permission comes with several conditions, inluding that she will be confined only to the hospital, she will report to the local police station house officer and she will not indulge in any anti-Indian activities during her stay.

She is expected to get her temporary visa in Malaysia on Monday. On Friday, the centre had told the Indian mission in Kuala Lumpur to ask Parvati to apply for a temporary visa.

Top sources said there is a lookout circular against Parvati since 2002. It was not relaxed when she was
in Chennai earlier this year and the Tamil Nadu government told the Intelligence Bureau not to allow her in the state.

When the opposition raised this issue in parliament, the UPA government waited for the parliament session to get over before permitting her to stay in Chennai for medical treatment.

After the Tamil Nadu chief secretary wrote to the union home secretary  on April 29, that the state has no objection to Parvati's visit, her visa was okayed at the highest level in UPA.
