Authorities in the Dudhwa Tiger Reserve have geared up to protect the wild animals from floods and poachers during monsoons.

Apart from constituting monsoon patrolling teams, temporary camps have been set up at the range headquarters while patrolling teams in all the 45 beats of the park have been formed, official source said.

"We have arranged four motor-boats, nets, life-jackets and other equipments which are essential for monsoon patrolling and rescuing of wild animals," Field Director, DTR Shailesh Prasad told PTI.

Wireless sets have been ensured to be fully functional for proper communication during monsoon, he said adding that as poaching activities also increase during monsoon, sensitive areas where tigers and other endangered species of animals dwell have been identified.

Patrolling teams have been instructed to keep a round the clock vigil in these areas, he added.

Around 100 sq km area of DTR is hit by floods and water logging every year during monsoon. Several of the prominent routes of the park get flooded or water-marooned.

Routine vehicular patrolling in these flooded areas becomes almost impossible and only patrolling on foot or on elephants is left the only way to protect the reserve.
