Due to incessant rains in Uttar Pradesh in the past few days, the demand for electricity has come down drastically.

According to UP Power Corporation Ltd (UPPCL), the demand for power, which was around 13,000 MW has come down to about 9,000 MW, providing relief to locals as no power cuts have been imposing by the Corporation since June 7.

Due to reduced demand in northern states grid frequency has improved enabling the UPPCL to overdraw power from the grid a very cheaper rate without attracting any penalty, an official said.

"The wide spread rains have certainly done away with the demand-supply gap in the state at the moment," he said.

UPPCL sources however said that a large number of local breakdowns caused by rains have also contributed to reduction in the lower load.

Due to heavy rainfall local faults have increased that is affecting supply at many places.
