Sena to move SC on 'best of five'

HC had struck down Maha govt's move to consider the top five scores out of six papers in Class X for XI admissions

PTI | June 29, 2010

Coming in defence of 10th class SSC board students, Shiv Sena today said it will move the Supreme Court against the Bombay High Court order striking down the 'best of five' system for junior college admissions in Maharashtra.

Sena Executive President Uddhav Thackeray told PTI that the party will challenge the High Court decision in the apex court.

"Sena would approach SC independently as it is a question of 16 lakh SSC Board students over their 16,000 pupils from other boards," a senior Sena leader said.

On delay in taking a decision to move the SC, the leader said the party was taking legal opinions from experts before going ahead.

Maharashtra government has already announced to move the apex court after its attempt to create a level playing field in Std XI admissions met stumbling block with the High Court scrapping the 'best of five' system last week.

The system was introduced by the government for the state board students in February in which best marks from five subjects out of six would be considered for final percentage.

The government also claimed that the system was to bring uniformity in marks of SSC students with CBSE and ICSE Boards.

The admission process for junior colleges has been stalled till July 10 by the government.
