Six Chhattisgarh cities to get a clean look

PTI | May 26, 2010

A cleanliness drive will be launched in six major cities of Chhattisgarh, official sources said today.

The cities to be covered under the Centre-sponsored campaign are Raipur, Bilaspur, Bhilai, Durg, Rajnandgaon and Korba. Two agencies have been chosen to prepare the roadmap to implement the scheme, they said.

While German Technical Corp will prepare the plan for the state capital Raipur, Lucknow-based Regional Centre for Urban and Environmental Studies will do the same for five other cities, the sources said.

The Union Government earlier this month released a list based on cleanliness ratings of 471 towns and cities.

Cities from Chhattisgarh were placed lowly on the list.

The cleanliness drive will be preceded by a survey to understand the ground reality in the six cities by involving local people and experts, the officials said.

People will be roped in the drive and they will also be sensitised on need for maintaining a clean surrounding, they added.
