Students police corps soon in Kerala

Corps will be imparted training in helping police, traffic management, social work

The student police cadet scheme, on the lines of NCC, would be introduced in schools in Kerala from the next academic year.

This was announced by chief minister V S Achuthanandan at a news conference after a state cabinet meeting today.

Students enrolling in the corps would be imparted training in various activities like helping police, controlling traffic and social service activities.

The scheme was tested on a pilot basis during the state school youth festival in Kozhikode last year, where members of the corps were entrusted with various tasks.

He said promotion of eco-friendly industries in the state is imperative to meet the target of exploring new markets for continued economic growth and increasing employment prospects.
