Tamil Nadu government would follow the guidelines of Madras High Court in setting up new court buildings in the state, law minister Durai Murugan told the state assembly, adding that frequent agitations by lawyers for court complexes were unfair.

"Tamil Nadu government cannot directly construct any new court premises.It would only follow instructions and guidelines of the High Court to establish a court," Murugan said.

Referring to frequent agitations by lawyers requesting to construct new court buildings in their respective region, he said it was unfair to go in for such agitations since the state government could not decide itself on setting up new court buildings wherever it is required. It could only follow the High Court guidelines and set up court complexes according to the financial position.

"Like never before, this Government has accorded sanction for construction of court buildings and quarters for the presiding officers at an estimated cost of more than Rs 200 crore so far drawing praise from the Judges of the Supreme Court as well as the Justices of the High Courts of other states", he said. A sum of about Rs 500 crore has been allocated for administration of justice this year,he added.
