The Sri Krishna Committee, set up by the Centre to examine and resolve the Telangana issue would wrap up its public consultation process next week and begin field visits thereafter, a top panel member said today.

"So far so good. Next week is the final round of discussions. Already some members have started undertaking active field visits to different districts," panel's member secretary V K Duggal told reporters at the end of the two-day visit to the city.

"The panel would like to tour all districts to gather public hearing before ending the exercise by the first week of August," he said.

The Committee has so far received over 1,20,000 representations from public out of which about 3,000 are well presented documents. Many of the representations are just emotional appeals in favour of separate Telangana or United Andhra Pradesh.

During the process, it has met about 90 groups and over 1,000 people.

To a query, Duggal said the Committee has decided not to visit those districts in Telangana where by polls are going to be held for 12 assembly seats before mid-August.

The by elections are necessitated due to the resignation of sitting MLAs in support of Telangana demand.

Asked when the ruling Congress is going to meet the Committee, he indicated that it is likely to happen next week.
