Time to bid adieu

PS to CBI directors for 17 years to retire this month

GN Bureau | March 18, 2010

After having served as private secretary to eight CBI directors since 1983, Deena Nath Kapur will demit office on March 31.

Starting his career as a part-time steno, Kapur rose to become a full-fledged PS in his long stint of 41 years with the CBI. He enjoys the status of a DSP at present.

None probably knows the premier investigative agency as well as Kapur does. There hasn't been any "top secret" file that he has not seen in the past decade and half. Given his impressive track record, the agency wanted him to continue as a retainer for one year, but he declined.

An ardent devotte of Lord Krishna, Kapur plans to to retire to Brindavan to meditate and cook food for the devotees.

CBI director Ashwini Kumar is hosting a farewell dinner for him which will be attended by all senior officers and their spouses--a rare gesture indeed.
