TMC unhappy with rail budget, wants rollback or Trivedi's head

Party MP Derek O'Brien tweets against budget

GN Bureau | March 14, 2012

Railway minister Dinesh Trivedi's budget for the ministry ha no takers within his own party, the Trinamool Congress. Party chief and West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee refused to endorse the budget claiming at a public meeting in Nandigram that her party will not support the fare hike proposed in the budget.

In an interview with Times Now, however, Trivedi stood firm by the decision to hike fares. He refused to comment on the puported political crisis emerging from the TMC leaders openly decrying the budget. Party MP in Rajya Sabha Derek O'Brien tweeted, "Railway Budget...what was all that about increasing fares across the board? Upper class...maybe ok...but all? Sorry, cannot agree...."

Trivedi repeatedly rebuffed speculation that he may be asked to resign over the budget by his party. He said that he had received no communication from TMC over the budget.
