Uttar Pradesh Police will carry out a verification drive across the state to identify those who managed to get personal security officers (gunners and shadows) on the basis of fake government orders, a senior police official said here today.

"It has been decided that a drive would be carried out in all the districts of the state to identify persons who had obtained gunners and shadows on the basis of fake government orders," additional director general of Police Brij Lal told reporters here.

He said the decision was taken after cases were detected that some persons managed to get gunners after producing fake orders.

"An FIR was lodged against five persons, including a lawyer and a builder, in Ghaziabad in such cases yesterday," the ADG said.

He said that under normal procedure before extending the facility of gunner, the state government seeks a report from the district police.

"When records were checked in Ghaziabad, it was found that no report was sent by the district police, which raised doouts," he said.

Brij Lal said when Ghaziabad police further investigated, it was found that the government order furnished by the beneficiaries were never issued by the home department and were found to be fake.

Persons against whom FIRs were lodged in Ghaziabad include an advocate Shyamveer, builder Rahul Pundeer, Vikas Singh and businessmen Sajid Ali and Shahid Ali, both brothers, he said.

The state government has already ordered a CB-CID inquiry into a similar case in Meerut district a few days ago.

"As these matters are similar to Meerut, CB-CID probe would also be ordered in this case," Home Secretary Deepak Kumar said.
