Withdraw security of Thackerays: Vidarbha leaders

Vidharba leaders call Thackerays' utterances 'undemocratic', ask CM to repeal security

PTI | February 6, 2010

The all-party committee spearheading the agitation for a separate Vidarbha has strongly condemned Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray and his son Uddhav for their utterances and sought withdrawal of security provided to them by the Maharashtra government.

"We demand that government security provided to both the Thackerays be immediately withdrawn," Vidarbha Rajya Sangram Samiti (VRSS) leader Vilas Muttemwar said here on Friday.

Ranjeet Deshmukh and Jambuwantrao Dhote were among others who called for a similar demand.

Condemning the "undemocratic" language used by them while talking about 'Mumbai for Maharashtrians' and non-Marathi- speaking people, Muttemwar, the local Congress MP and Deshmukh, a former MPCC chief, asked Chief Minister Ashok Chavan to take stern action against the duo.

Former MP Dhote lashed out at the Thackerays "for using derogatory language" against Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi and said it amounted to "hitting below the belt".
