Woman, son beaten up for MLA's house call

Rival candidate in the upcoming polls hires goons to beat up the woman

A woman and her son were beaten up by their neighbours after an MLA visited their house in Manipur's Thoubal district, official reports said today.

Ibemcha (47) and her son Md Arif (23) allowed their MLA K Meghachandra with some local supporters to enter their house to discuss some development work in the area in Wangkhem assembly constituency yesterday.

Soon after Meghachandra left, their neighbour Md Kadir who is an aspirant for the forthcoming assembly polls due next year, hired some local supporters and beat up the mother and her son mercilessly, the reports said.

The mother and son have lodged a complaint with nearby Yairipok police station, the reports said.

Md Arif told local media that the MLA has been visiting houses located in his constituency for the past some weeks and as a part of his programme, he (MLA) also visited his house.
