Accenture, IBM and Mindtree shortlisted for UID project

TCS, Infosys and Wipro out of the race

GN Bureau | April 24, 2010

Three IT companies have been shortlisted by UIDAI for its software project,  Business Standard reported today.

According to the past reports Infosys, TCS, Wipro, Mastek, MindTree, Logica, Siemens, Mahindra Satyam, IBM and Accenture were the ten companies shortlisted for the project. As many as nineteen companies had responded to the Request for Proposal (RFP) for application software development, maintenance & support agency (ASDMSA) project

However what was surprising that India's top three IT companies Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Infosys Technologies and Wipro were eliminated from the selection process for the project on technical grounds, reported the Business Standard.

The companies which had been shortlisted in the second round include global IT companies IBM and Accenture, and Ashok Soota promoted MindTree.  The bids for 10 identified companies were opened on Friday and three companies are shortlisted for this project. The final bidder will be announced soon.

Earlier in an exclusive interview to Governance Now, Nandan Nilekani, Chairman of UIDAI had mentioned that the UIDAI plans to issue the first set of unique identification numbers between August 2010 and February 2011. UIDAI is also working on a UID Act, Nilekani had mentioned.

UID project will become foundation of all e-governance initiatives in India.
