Healthcare to be a mission mode project soon

Time to integrate the three to four mission mode projects running under healthcare

Healthcare will soon be a fully developed mission mode project under the national e-governance plan (NeGP), according to Rajendra Kumar, joint secretary, department of electronics and IT (DeitY).

The mission mode project is aimed at the application of ICT in the healthcare and e-enabling of health services including tele-medicine. The architecture and policies including that of change management for information communication technology (ICT) in healthcare will be present in a national level MMP.

"Several states have used ICTs in different manner in healthcare and the need now is to replicate the successes in a national program," said Kumar while speaking at a conference, titled ‘accelerating domestic technology adoption to drive growth’, organized by FICCI today.

He said that there are three to four mission mode projects running under healthcare and time has come now to integrate all of them. “We need to set up standards of interoperability and make sure that the delivery of services is integrated with technology. Mobile and tablets need to be explored for delivery of services," he said.

Kumar said that enabling infrastructure has been provided by DeitY such as cloud platform and mobile platform such as Mobile Seva. The incorporation of local language is also going on in a dedicated manner.

Kumar said that the development of healthcare MMP will enable sectors such as insurance to come up in a big way. He said that the MMP document is set to be approved by the government. The document can be accessed on health ministry’s website.
