L&T Infotech, a wholly owned subsidiary of L&T, today said that it has won a prestigious e-governance implementation project from the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), an institution affiliated to the Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD).

L&T Infotech is enabling AICTE provide efficient and effective services to all its stakeholders and to bring in transparency, accountability and speed in its engagement with its member institutions and prospective member institutions in order to create a robust, healthy and vibrant educational infrastructure in the country, a press release issued in Mumbai stated.

It is also enabling AICTE stakeholders to gain visibility into the governance process and report status through periodic updates and to enhance productivity and standardisation by automating various approval and accreditation processes and work-flows across bureaus and regional offices, the release said.

Others include enabling accurate MIS as well as ad hoc reporting and effective decision-making by creating a comprehensive database of colleges, trustees, staff, faculties and students. .

Under this project, L&T Infotech will implement Siebel CRM (Customer Relationship Management) modules and will also supply and execute a comprehensive System Integration (SI) network including supply of the requisite hardware for PCs and networking equipment for their office in Delhi and 15 regional offices across the country.

This project also includes a four-year support of the applications and hardware. L&T Infotech will be integrating payment gateways and biometric features in the e-governance solution, the release added.

The first phase of this project, which was inaugurated by the Union Minister of HRD, Kapil Sibal, in New Delhi on January 7, has been completed in a record time of six weeks.

"Implementing this project will help AICTE to improve the quality of education at a much faster pace. It will provide instantaneous information and status to all stakeholders on the criteria for accreditation of an institution," AICTE's acting Chairman, S S Mantha, said.
