In order to encourage government departments to make their websites easily accessible for differently-abled persons, the Ministry of Social Justice has constituted a new award for the best website for the disabled.

The award would be given on the International Day of Disabled Persons on December 3.

"We will introduce a new category for best website for disabled from this year, which is aimed at encouraging union ministries as well as departments to make their websites more user-friendly for differently abled persons," a senior ministry official said here today.

The ministry's own website was recently made accessible to disabled persons through National Informatics Centre Services Incorporated (NICSI).

On the ministry's website, persons with visual impairment can use a 'screen reader software' which reads the text appearing on the monitor.
